Hope & Olly’s DIY Cumbrian wedding took place in August of this year. They married at the medieval St. Lawrence’s Church in Appleby-in-Westmorland, set on the banks of the Eden River before heading back to Hope’s parents house to a fabulous marquee in their back garden for the reception. Our bride and her bridesmaids got ready at the house and she looked absolutely stunning while Olly and his groomsmen put their suits on at The Tufton Arms in the village and they looked equally dapper (before heading for a pre-ceremony pint or two downstairs in the pub).
It rained, as is often the case in Cumbria but it didn’t dampen spirits at all. Their church ceremony was so wonderful, Hope’s proud dad walked her down the aisle to meet Olly and say their vows to one another in front of the congregation. After the ceremony we headed to the village of Brampton where the marquee was awaiting our arrival. It had been beautifully decorated with flowers and candles and looked stunning as the wedding guests arrived. Speeches and a delicious three course meal followed and as the final profiterole was seen off the most incredible sunset emerged in the distance. We ran outside, literally hopped over a fence (kudos to Hope for hurdling over in her wedding dress!) and into the neighbouring field for some golden hour portraits. The planets aligned and the rain stopped for ten minutes and we took some absolutely beautiful photos.
As day turned to night and the sun set on the amazing Cumbrian hills all the guests (myself included) danced the night away into the early hours and it was the perfect end to a wonderful day. What a truly magical wedding it was, thanks to Hope & Olly for having me along to take their photos and thanks to all involved for making it so special. Cumbria weddings for the win!
