Hannah and Adam’s gorgeous summer wedding was another to take place under Covid restrictions and it was absolutely stunning. Their chosen venue The Star Inn at Harome is the perfect choice for a small and intimate wedding - a Michelin starred gastropub in the North Yorkshire village of Harome bursting with character housed under it’s thatched roof, essentially a “rustic gourmet bolthole” and a popular spot for very well catered weddings. It was the sunniest of August summer days and we made full use of the gorgeous kitchen gardens and outdoor space surrounding the venue to enjoy the Yorkshire sunshine.
Obviously guest numbers were curtailed but our bride and groom were happy to keep their special day informal in nature with just parents, Hannah’s grandma and a small selection of close friends to witness the occasion. That being said it was a beautiful wedding and The Star Inn shone all the same. Hannah wore her beautiful vintage wedding dress beautifully and she looked incredible. The ceremony took place in the wheelhouse with guests and staff wearing masks (quite a sight!) before heading outdoors to the drinks and canapés. After a few photos and an outfit change from Hannah - check out that tartan suit - we had the bride and groom’s speech in the garden followed by a couple of musical numbers from two of the guests who sang and played guitars, a magical moment in the late afternoon sunshine.
What followed can only be described as a gastronomic experience: the full nine course taster menu as cooked by Michelin starred head chef Andrew Pern himself featuring Whitby crab, Thirkleby duck, Mull scallops, homegrown raspberry soufflé, Armagnac chocolate truffles and more - often my mouth still salivates at the thought. Such a culinary adventure is where The Star Inn really makes for a truly unique experience and not one found at many wedding venues across the land. We had a speech in between each course (almost all of the guests had to fill a spot) before popping outside for a few midnight portraits after the desserts and a truly stunning wedding cake from the very talented Porterhouse Cake Company - they make good cakes!
What a perfect Yorkshire wedding it turned out to be. Thanks so much to Hannah and Adam for having me along and to all the staff at The Star Inn at Harome for looking after me. I’m due back for a Christmas wedding next week and I absolutely cannot wait!
